How Much Backyard Space Do You Need for a Bounce House or Water Slide?
It’s the question that stops a lot of Knoxville parents mid-booking: will it even fit in my yard? Good news — most backyards work just fine, and checking takes about five minutes with a tape measure. Here’s exactly how much room you need, what to look for overhead and along the path, and how to be sure before you book.

The quick rule: footprint + 5 feet on every side
Take the unit’s size and add about 5 feet of clearance on all four sides for the blower, the entrance ramp, stakes, and safe entry/exit. So:
- A 13′ x 13′ bounce house needs roughly a 17′ x 17′ clear area.
- A 15′ x 15′ bounce house needs roughly a 20′ x 20′ area.
- Bigger combos and slides need more — just add the same 5-foot buffer to the listed dimensions.
Every unit’s dimensions are listed on its page, so you can match it to your yard. Browse bounce house rentals, water slide rentals, and wet/dry combos and check the size before you book.
Don’t forget to look up
Vertical clearance matters as much as floor space. Plan for 15–20 feet of open space overhead — no low tree branches, power lines, or roof overhangs above the unit. Water slides are tall, so they need the most headroom of all.
Can we get it to the spot?
We carry units through the yard rolled up, so we need a clear path to the setup area:
- At least 48 inches (4 feet) wide for a standard gate or walkway — 60 inches for big slides and obstacle courses.
- Unlocked gates and a path clear of cars, trailers, and dog runs on delivery day.
Best surface for setup
Grass is ideal — it anchors safely with stakes and gives a soft base. We can also set up on other surfaces, but tell us in advance so we bring the right anchoring. Avoid spots on a steep slope or right next to a pool or fire pit.
Not sure it’ll fit? Just ask.
Send us a photo and rough measurements of your space and we’ll recommend a unit that fits — that’s part of being your local, 5-star party team since 2020. Then grab your Knoxville party rentals with confidence.

Frequently asked questions
How much space does a bounce house need?
Take the unit’s footprint and add about 5 feet of clearance on every side. A 15′ x 15′ bounce house needs roughly a 20′ x 20′ area, plus 15–20 feet of open space overhead.
How much room does a water slide need?
More than a standard bounce house — the same 5-foot side clearance plus extra length for the slide and splash area, and a tall overhead clearance free of branches and power lines.
Can you set up on concrete or a driveway?
Often yes, but grass is best for anchoring. Tell us your surface when you book so we bring the right setup.
How wide does my gate need to be?
At least 48 inches for standard units, and about 60 inches for large slides and obstacle courses. Please have gates unlocked and the path clear on delivery day.
